Hands that Heal

What Chiropractors Do

Chiropractic is a health care profession that focusses on the spine and other joints of the body, and their connection to the nervous system.

The word "chiropractic" means "to be done by hand."

Chiropractors use adjustments to restore joint function and support the nervous system. They help patients maintain optimal health while avoiding unnecessary drugs or surgery.

Chiropractors specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of defects in the musculoskeletal system and the effect it has on the nervous system and general health.

Chiropractic treatment is focused to ensure the optimal functioning of the joints in the human body through highly specialised manipulation. Pressure is exerted on exactly the right points and often accompanied by treatment of the surrounding muscles.

Back Pain, Headaches & Sciatica

Common complaints that bring patients to see a chiropractor include pain in the lower back, pain between the shoulder blades, sciatica (pain that travels down into the legs) and neck pain with headaches.

Colic Babies

Colic is a symptom (excessive crying) and not a diagnosis. It is not always caused by digestive problems. It can often be due to discomfort in the babies joints, muscles or nerves. This is often caused by problems in the pregnancy (eg breach pregnancy) or during the birth (eg prolonged deliveries, suction or forceps deliveries or emergency caesars).

Sports Injuries

An athlete should not only see a chiropractor for the treatment and rehabilitation of a sports injury. They should also consult a chiropractor in order to help prevent injuries and more importantly to help improve performance.

Muscle & Joint Pain

If one part of the body is not functioning optimally, the rest of the body will try to compensate for it. This can lead to pain in other joints and muscles.

Therapeutic Treatments.

Dry Needling

Dry Needling is a therapeutic treatment for musculoskeletal/soft tissue dysfunction. This treatment helps to normalize homeostasis in the body in order to promote self-healing.

Dry Needling is a modern, science-based intervention in which fine needles are insterted into myofascial trigger points, tendons, ligaments, or near nerves in order to stimulate a healing response in painful musculoskeletal conditions.

Research indicates many effects (mechanical, hypoalgesic, chemical, neurophysiologic and hormonal) that are behind the reduction of pain and dysfunction with dry needling therapy.

Dry needling is not acupuncture or Oriental Medicine; that is, it does not have the purpose of altering the flow of energy (“Qi”) along traditional Chinese meridians for the treatment of diseases.

“I had a primary school teacher, for example, that had constant lower back pain. The reason was that she was continuously bending down because everything and everyone around her was smaller and lower.

After treatment, I recommended that she get a chair with wheels to move between the learners’ tables. Problem solved”
